Rockford, IL (April 2, 2013) – Universal Recycling Technologies (URT), an eStewards® certified electronic and universal waste recycler, is pleased to announce that it is placing bins for consumers to drop off used and obsolete electronics free of charge at two Kelley Williamson Company Kelley’s Market convenience store locations beginning April 2, 2013. The following Kelley Williamson stores will have e-cycling bins on their properties:
550 Southrock Drive (South Main Street and Highway 20)
8061 East State Street (Corner of East State Street and Lyford)
Acceptable materials to be dropped off at the collection bins include consumer electronics (e.g., cell phones, computers and computer equipment, laptops, TVs), office equipment, circuit boards, and power supplies. Virtually anything with a cord qualifies.
Available during normal Kelley’s Market business hours, the containers offer a no-hassle, stress-free solution designed to address the growing electronics waste (e-waste) problem our nation faces at no cost to consumers. The process for drop off is convenient and easily accessible. Consumers simply visit one of the e-cycling bins and place their used electronics inside the bin. URT will collect and properly recycle the materials, ensuring personal data is destroyed.
“Electronic waste is growing at an exponential rate. This program provides a convenient, safe alternative for consumers to responsibly dispose of potentially hazardous e-waste at no cost. It supports URT’s guiding mission to provide recycling that is environmentally sustainable, easy to access, and affordable. When you recycle with URT, your materials are processed domestically and in accordance with the strictest available industry standards. This level of transparency and attention to detail is critical when selecting a recycler,” says URT President Jim Cornwell.
Kelley Williamson is URT’s first container partner in the Illinois market. URT and Kelley Williamson worked closely with the City of Rockford to evaluate and approve this new collection process. All parties are very excited to offer an additional convenient, consumer-focused electronics recycling solution to the Rockford community. “This container agreement with URT will address a growing community need regarding the safe, secure, and environmentally friendly disposal of electronic equipment. We are happy to be part of such a ground-breaking, proactive effort that will serve not only as a convenience to those in our community, but will also ensure the environmentally safe disposal of these items,” says President of Kelly Williamson Company John Griffin.
Also available to the public is the option to drop off electronic materials for recycling at any URT processing facility to ensure the highest possible data security amongst personal items. Appliances and larger items may be brought directly to a URT location for free recycling. All items dropped off at a URT location or URT collection bin will be handled and recycled responsibly in accordance with eStewards® Standard for Responsible Recycling and Reuse of Electronic Equipment® standards. Furthermore, the consumer assumes zero liability the moment he or she drops off materials to be recycled with URT.
The City of Rockford has also partnered in the project by approving the drop-off location as a pilot program through the City Council. Todd Cagnoni, Deputy Director of Community and Economic Development, stated; “We are very excited about the establishment of these drop-off locations and believe this to be an excellent private sector solution for e-waste in our community. We believe the citizens of Rockford and our community will benefit from these convenient and environmentally responsible drop-off locations.”
