JANESVILLE, WI (December 14, 2010) - Universal Recycling Technologies, LLC (URT) has expanded into a 40,000-square-foot building located at 120 E. Burbank in Janesville's south side industrial area from Hendricks Development Group. The new building offers additional office and processing space to complement the company's existing 140,000-square-foot facility on Beloit Avenue. URT plans to hire 30 employees to support its growth.
In support of URT's continued growth, the City approved a $50,000 Tax Increment Financing loan to pay for some of the necessary improvements to the facility.
“Universal Recycling Technologies is pleased announce the expansion of our footprint in Rock County,” says Jim Cornwell, URT President. “We are proud to be a part of the community and its continued economic recovery."
URT is a national recycling organization, headquartered in Janesville, focusing on electronic and universal waste management. Since 2007, the company has been privately owned by Hendricks Holding Company, Inc. (www.hendricksholding.com). URT operates seven recycling facilities across the US and a customer service center in Endicott, NY. Founded in 2003, URT is a recognized leader in the industry, providing end-of-life recycling (de-manufacturing), asset recovery services (ARS), universal waste, commodities, and logistics management services to major market segments including original equipment manufacturers (OEM), retailers, municipalities, and Fortune 500 organizations.
Additionally, URT processes and recycles mercury-containing devices (fluorescent lighting, mercury lamps) in select operations across the US, manufactures recycling equipment, and offers glass-to-glass processing. URT is an e-Stewards Recycler, qualified by the Basel Action Network (BAN) under the Electronic Recyclers Pledge of True Stewardship program (www.e-stewards.org).
Brokered by Coldwell Banker Commercial, Hendricks Development Group purchased the building from Helgesen Development Corporation. Corporate Contractors, Inc. with architectural services from Angus Young Associates, Inc. will make the improvements to suit URT's expansion needs.
According to Development Manager for the Hendricks Development Group, Mark Membrino, “This project is another step forward for URT's growth and the recovery of the local economy. URT is a great company with great leadership and backing in a green industry that is experiencing explosive growth. Look for more great news to come from this company.“
“In order to secure this site, we worked diligently with Jeff Helgesen. This project demonstrates how business leaders in the community can work together to move Rock County's economy forward. Although we have competed against each other in the past, Jeff understood and embraced the economic importance of this project for the entire community in terms of employment growth and was instrumental in insuring its success. I take my hat off to Jeff for his efforts and professionalism in working with us on this deal.”
